“Mama Kin exists in the soulful place where art meets the world” Sydney Morning Herald
Mama Kin
Above all, Mama Kin is a storyteller who taps the human condition with equal parts ferocity and vulnerability.
An award-winning singer-songwriter, Mama Kin’s musical adventures have taken many paths, from We Two Thieves - a collaboration with folk icon Emily Lubitz (Tinpan Orange) - to her lightning duo Mama Kin Spender alongside electro wizard Dingo Spender which spawned ARIA-nominated debut ‘Golden Magnetic’ and their recent critically acclaimed EP ‘Are You Listening?’
As a solo artist Mama Kin released two EPs ‘Papoose’ and ‘Talisman’ and two albums – ‘Beat and Holler’ and AIR and ARIA-nominated, WAM Award winning ‘The Magician’s Daughter’ - firmly establishing herself as a raconteur traversing folk and soul with depth and sincerity.
Unafraid to mine the intricacies of our darkest emotions, Mama Kin connects with her fans intimately. Gut-wrenchingly honest and powerful, her lyrics venture beyond the veil building instant and lifelong supporters.
A festival favourite, her music has taken her across the globe from Canada to Ireland, France and the USA where she has shared stages with the likes of The Cat Empire, Martha Wainwright, Ani DiFranco and The Waifs.
Her most recent collaboration with Dingo Spender, Mama Kin Spender, is a duo of connection and mischief-making, a rattle and hum call across the desert plains.
From the mouth of Margaret River, WA (Wadandi Boodja) to Victoria’s rugged Mornington Peninsula (Bunurong and Boonwurung country) MKS are wholeheartedly committed to community. Gathering local choirs wherever they roam, with choirmaster and vocal arranger, Virginia Bott (Brighter Later, First Chorus Band of Singers) taking the reins to guide the voices to harmonies that ricochet and smoulder, underpinning a joyous collision of drums, percussion, and blistering guitar.
Creating an opportunity for communities to connect and celebrate themselves, MKS is an openhearted burst of sincerity, wonder and adventure. “They breathe soul and vitality into the place” (Rolling Stone Magazine)
From the songwriting craft to the beats and beaming choir, MKS will leave you clutching at your chest while stomping and howling.
